Parietex Optimized Composite Mesh (PCOx), manufactured by Medtronic (formerly Covidien), is a dual-sided surgical implant used to reinforce abdominal wall soft tissues in primary and incisional hernia surgeries
Key Features and Material Composition
- Dual-Sided Design:
- Parietal Side: A non-absorbable, three-dimensional (3D) multifilament polyester textile that promotes rapid and robust tissue integration.
- Visceral Side: A hydrophilic, bioresorbable collagen-based film designed to minimize visceral attachments and adhesions to the mesh.
- 3D Textile Structure: Features a macroporous design (pores approximately or ) to encourage healthy tissue ingrowth while maintaining flexibility and strength.
- Optimized Performance: Compared to the original Parietex Composite (PCO) mesh, the "Optimized" version offers a more resistant barrier, better visibility for the surgeon, and increased mechanical strength. Medtronic +4
- Applications: Primarily used in laparoscopic and open ventral hernia repairs.
- Placement: Designed for intraperitoneal placement where the mesh may come into direct contact with internal organs.

- Do Not Cut: The mesh should be used in its provided form; cutting it can damage the protective collagen edge and compromise its anti-adhesion properties.
